A little about me

ree

My name is Gabbi Parulis. I am currently a freshman at High point University. I am majoring in Interior design, which has always been something I have been very interested in. My sister is a senior at New York University studying film and photography. She has lived in New York year round since her sophomore year keeping up with jobs and internships. My Dad is an oral surgeon and owns Roanoke Oral Surgery. He began working there when we moved from Suffolk, Virginia to Roanoke, Virginia. He spent fifteen years in the Navy during his residency. My mom has been the accountant for my dads practice ever since we moved to Roanoke.

I have been lucky enough to have parents who love to travel. We go somewhere different every summer. Starting from our trips to the British Virgin Islands all the way to our safari in Africa. Africa was by far my favorite place I have ever been. Seeing a completely different culture around me and getting to be up close and personal with such beautiful animals in their natural habitat. I hope to continue my travels throughout my college experience especially to see more culture that is all around the world.

About a year ago I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder called Hashimotos Thyroiditis. It began with what the doctors called "episodes" but was really just me passing out very often. It took about three weeks for me to be diagnosed because the doctors wanted to be completely positive of what it was. What it means is that my blood pressure is always very low, causing me to be tired all the time and to pass out frequently. I also have to be extra careful when I get sick because I am much more prone to illness than those around me.
